A day after a mentally challenged woman was sexually assaulted, a 32-year-old driver was arrested by Crime Branch officers yesterday
The culprit was identified as Saidullah Mohammed Shafi Karanjikar alias Liyakat, and is a resident of Dahivali in Raigarh district. “We arrested the accused and have handed over him to DB Marg police station,” said Prashant Raje, Crime Branch officer, Unit-II. Police said, on Wednesday, the victim left her house saying she is going to meet her aunt.

Due to her condition, she, however, forgot the way and reached another place. Liyakat encountered her at a building near Grant Road junction, and when he noticed that she is mentally challenged, he took her to Firdose Guest House in Nagpada and violated her. A complaint was later lodged against an unknown person at DB Marg police station. Acting on a tip-off, cops laid a trap and nabbed Liyakat from Usmania hotel in Dongri.u00a0
