An 18-year-old boy was arrested by the police on Tuesday after he was found with a country-made revolver and a live cartridge.

According to the police, the boy, Mohammed Gulzar Sheikh, who hails from Sri Nagar near Old Delhi was here to either sell the weapon or kill someone, reports Times of India.

According to the RCF police, Sheikh was walking near Bhojwani Park at Cheetah Camp in Chembur when a patrol team spotted him.

Sheikh has booked under the Arms Act. He has been involved in various crimes since he was 15, the police said. Sheikh came to Mumbai by train on Sunday.

"He had been doing the rounds of the city for the past two days in search of someone,'' said inspector Shailesh Pasalwar. However, Sheikh has not yet revealed the purpose of his visit.

Sub-inspector Sanjay Bhapkar said Sheikh gave contradictory statements. "He had hidden the weapon in a handbag.

He said he had committed robberies and thefts in the past. When a person in Delhi offered him a hefty sum for delivering the weapon, he jumped at the chance,'' said Bhapkar.

Pasalwar said Sheikh would travel without ticket in a general compartment. "He even managed to get past the security check at the stations in Delhi and Mumbai. Further investigations are on,'' he said.
