Passengers harrowed as AI airport staff caught unaware of IC flight status; this despite a merger of both brands
Though Air India and Indian Airlines are part of the same parent company, and after a merger also operate under the same umbrella brand, the airport staff believes otherwise.
And the brunt of this confusion is borne by passengers mainly traveling by Indian Airlines (IC) flights, who are made to run from pillar-to-post to get information of their flight status at the airport.
According to a ground staff member at the Air India counter of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, "So far only the IC (Indian Airlines) flights have been cancelled.
As we only have the schedule for Air India flights, we are unable to provide any information about the IC flights."
When this reporter reminded him of the brand merger, the staff member said, "Though the merger has been completed, we are updated with only details of Air India flights."
A passenger, scheduled to travel by an IC flight, said, "Last month when I was travelling to Sharjah, I too got the same reply from the airport staff.
The airline should mention on its tickets that IC queries should be directed to a different office."
Compromise
According to sources, the meeting between the pilots and the Air India (AI) management has ended with a result in the favour of the pilots. AI is scheduled to release an official statement later today.
