According to the poll day report of the Election Commission Mumbai witnessed 13 per cent voter turnout till 11 am on Thursday. Mumbai South was lowest with 11 per cent, while Mumbai North West saw highest voter turnout at 16.46 percen. The overall voting percentage at 11 am was recroded 12.59 which also includes Thane and Kalyan constituencies.
In past few days, resident activist campaigned hard to encourage people of South Mumbai to vote in the morning and only then leave for the weekend holiday.
The candidates contesting the 15th Lok Sabha election from South Mumbai are Milind Deora (Cong- NCP), Mohan Rawale (Shiv Sena- BJP), Bala Nandgaonkar (MNS) and independent candidate Meera Sanyal. While the candidates from North West are Gurudas Kamat (Cong-NCP), Abu Azmi (SP), Gajanan Kirtikar (Shiv Sena-BJP) and Shalini Thackeray (MNS).
