Thane banker loses Rs 19.86 lakh to fraudster posing as construction firm staff

A bank manager in Bhayander in Thane district was cheated of Rs 1986 lakh by a fraudster posing as a highprofile client a police official said on Saturday reported news agency PTIOn January 2 the bank manager received a call from a man who identified himself as Naresh Rajput of one Vinayak Builders and said he was interested in placing a Rs 2 crore fixed deposit and sought assistance with an RTGS transfer the Bhayander police station official informed reported PTIHe even sent a fake mail that displayed the letterhead of the construction firm following which the victim processed an RTGS of Rs 1986 lakh The fraud was revealed when the real Naresh Rajput came to the branch seeking details of this transaction The victim even made the person talk to the accused who abruptly cut the call the official said reported PTIAn unidentified person has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for cheating by personation and other offences Bhayander police station inspector Jitendra Kamble saidWoman arrested for presenting fake digital pass on Mumbai AC local trainIn another case a 30yearold woman was arrested by the Government Railway Police GRP after she allegedly presented a fake digital pass while travelling by an AC local train on Friday morning an official said reported PTIPreety Gupta the accused was asked by chief ticket inspector Deepika Murty to show her pass or ticket when the train was near Khar station said a GRP official reported PTIGupta showed a pass booked through the Railway mobile ticketing app UTS but the Murty grew suspicious and took her to the Bandra GRP office for verificationIt was found that Gupta had not purchased any railway pass since 2023 She allegedly admitted that her friend Anuj Kishor Gupta had created a fake digital pass for her reported PTIGupta was arrested under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita BNS including cheating and forgery Further investigation is underway the official addedMan posing as cop steals gold ring from elderly farmer in BeedMeanwhile a 66yearold farmer from Beed was duped of his gold ring worth Rs 25000 by a man posing as a police personnel an official said on Friday reported PTIThe incident took place on Wednesday afternoon he addedChandrakant Govindrao Tidake 66 a resident of Rui village in Dharur tehsil was walking from the bus stand towards a bank when he was stopped by a man who claimed he was a police personnel On the pretext of verification the accused took Tidakes gold ring worth Rs 25000 The man fled after placing an old ring in the victims hand the official said reported PTIA cheating case has been registered and efforts are on to nab the accused the Dharur police station official saidWith inputs from PTI
