A plant that traps insects, an elusive gecko, and other wonders of nature await you in Matheran

Best witnessed in mid-September when it’s in full bloom, Mumbaikars have the opportunity to see the phenomenon unfold before their eyes at a one night-two day biodiversity camp in Matheran, organised by DCP Expeditions next weekend. “An eco-sensitive zone with no vehicles allowed, Matheran is a pristine location with rich biodiversity,” says naturalist, writer and photographer Yogesh Chavan (in pic), who will conduct the camp.
“We will set out on a night trail with our headlamps on, to spot nocturnal creatures including a variety of geckos, owls, frogs and reptiles. Matheran is a wildlife photographer’s delight during daytime too, when we will engage in a macrophotography session that will include colourful mushrooms and the green vine snake.”
