Way to go, FCC!

It is hard to cheer a government entity, but then again, there are exceptions

There is nothing like a light bulb joke to beat Monday blues, and since we will be discussing Apple in this article, it would be appropriate to look at a joke on the Mac. It goes like this:

Question: How many Macintosh users does it take to change a light bulb?
Answer: None. You have to replace the whole motherboard.

Did that make you laugh? Well, right now, nobody is laughing at Apple for a simple reason the geniuses (the figure of speech is irony) who run the iPhone App Store rejected Google Voice and now they are in a lot of hot water because the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) now wants Apple and AT&T to eplain.

They had it coming

This should have Apple worried because the FCC, which was created by Congressional statute, is empowered to do various things, one of which is ensuring that competition thrives. And telling Google that it can't put Voice on the iPhone is not the FCC's idea of competition or anybody else's, for that matter.

Of course, all along, Apple has been acting like a concerned dad who forces his teenaged daughter to don a chastity belt before a school ball. It has been rejecting apps for a long time, but the Google Voice app is so big and the uproar it has created so loud that the FCC has told Apple that it wants to investigate.

Silly attitude

Of course, Apple wants to protect its own home turf, but there are limits. In today's open IT environment, it is best to give users a choice in everything they use, ranging from the OS to the apps. The PC is a classic case in point you can run any OS ranging from Windows to Linux, and apps like MS Office or OpenOffice. It is your choice.

On the iPhone, it is different. Though Apple is amazing when it comes to cutting edge technology, insofar as its attitude is concerned, it is stuck in the past. Only apps that the powers-that-be at Apple decide are good enough for you are given to you. This tin-pot dictator attitude sucks big time and TechCrunch, a popular blog says that 'Apple is growing rotten to the core' and its founder Michael Arrington has actually said that he is going to quit using the iPhone.

Another bulb joke

To wind up, I thought that I would create my own light bulb joke for the iPhone:

Question: How many Apple App Store executives does it take to change a light bulb?
Answer: You can't change the light bulb because App Store has found that light bulbs are used to view sexually explicit content that appears on magazines and newspapers. Therefore, light bulbs are banned from the App Store, which has declared darkness as the new standard.

A few bad apps
Some apps that have run into trouble include:
>>Slasher: Showed a picture of a knife, and if you shook the device, it played a scream
>>Knife Music: Involves one character's retelling of another character's sexual encounter
>>Prohibition 2: The Dope Wars: iPhone remake of a classic game called Drug Wars, which casts the player as a drug dealer who has 30 days to make it in New York's illegal-drug market
>>Baby Shaker: You put a crying baby to sleep by shaking the iPhone. It was pulled out because awareness groups like the Sarah Jane Brain Foundation were outraged over it
>>Eucalyptus: A book reader that contained a translation of the Kama Sutra
