When you ask Vir Das how he reacts to being dubbed as 'India's answer to Jay Leno', prompt comes the reply: "I don't think Leno is waiting for an answer, is he?" That's Vir Das for you, witty to the T.
But the man is like an onion. There are different layers to him which add comical flavour our lives. This time round, he promises to help the Capital shed tears of laughter with Alien Chutney, his one-year- old funny band which will perform in Delhi on Friday.

The Aliens have landed
Alien Chutney will talk about anything under the sun from Delhi women to the idiocy of advertising. For the band, anything is fodder which feeds this musical comic machine. "But hey, I don't do politician jokes. Don't confuse with someone who does Laloo jokes," the protest comes strongly from Das. Clearly, the man has made his mark as a comic whose wit stems from observation without relying on the onstage antics our regular breed of comics employ and he wants to keep it that way. Or perhaps a few notches up by forming a band. "Alien Chutney came up during our Walking on Broken Das days. Kaizad Gherda and I used to do two songs at the end which became its highlight, so we decided to get into the bigger sphere," says Das. Now the man seems to be really enjoying it. "Why not? It's a different space. We are giving the audience comedy as well as music. That is gratifying as a performer," he adds.
Unleashing das
Inquire him about his singing and he again has an answer ready: "I'm not a good singer." Now, howu00a0 you want to decipher that is perhaps totally up to you. But the audience loves Vir Das' singing. How else do you explain the swelling numbers. "Yes, it has gotten bigger and bigger, Today we end up performing in front of an audience which is sometimes 4,000 strong. This wasn't the case a few years back. Today people are ready to spend money on other forms of entertainment apart from films and sports," says Das. "With a small audience there was always the intimate connect, with a large one you have to go slow so that the joke reaches everybody. But who doesn't love a large audience," says Das. Talking of audiences, the man admits he has a special liking for Delhi. "Here the people are very vocal. So the act takes impromptu turns since the response here is very spontaneous," he says.
Vir-agra talks
But what about Delhi Belly? Their upcoming film which is already gathering a fan following thanks to their anthem Bhaag DK Bose which is spreading like wildfire? "I'm not allowed to open my mouth about the film yet," comes the reply. What about Delhi bellies then? We probe. "Oh! Delhi women run away from me in fear. But on second thoughts, I don't think they are really afraid of me. After all, I make then laugh," he says, laughing. Hmmu00a0... but is this the same man who used to do a show during his wild days called Brown men can't hump? "Ha! ha! that was the name of the show. It had nothing to do with prowess. Of course we can hump as hard as the rest of the world. There you have it Indian men, straight from the man voted among top 10 dream men by a newspaper. Now all you need to do is to rise to the occasion and give the man a round of applause.
