Kamal received lot of flak for his reported comment against the government, which he denied making in the first place. He also said he remained "apolitical" for very long.

"In my letter to a journalist friend, I only expressed my concern over the flood ravaged people of the state. Neither had I made any comment about the state government nor wanted to know how the
taxpayer's money was being spent," he said in a statement.

"I wouldn't have paid my taxes all these years if I worried about how it was being used," he said.

Tamil Nadu is reeling under the worst floods to have hit the state in a century.
