What's it about: In 1977, Harvey Milk became the first officially gay person to win a major public office in the US.
He was assassinated in 1978. Based on the Academy Award-winning documentary The Life and Times of Harvey Milk, the film focuses on the last decade of his life.
He becomes politically involved, making a couple of runs for office and finally getting elected. Then Milk takes on some major issues and his activities anger another supervisor, Dan White.
Flood for Milk
The Oscar-nominated film, Milk, has become the subject of a campaign very interestingly called: Operation Flood where the gay community and its supporters are urging people to flood movie theaters to watch Milk.
The movement is being propelled forward by an extensive SMS campaign.
The SMS message says: Help Operation Flood! This Friday Oscar nominated gay film Milk is releasing (with NO cuts) in Mumbai and Pune. Only if it does OK here will it get national release.u00a0
Please pack theaters with friends and family to help Milk send a strong signal for tolerance and gay rights. Please forward this to friends.
