Los Angeles: 'Happy Valley' star James Norton will star opposite Ellen Page in the 'Flatliners' remake.

Norton will play an aspiring doctor tempted to play god in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo director Niels Arden Oplev's update of the 1990 Kiefer Sutherland and Julia Roberts hit, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Norton, Page, Diego Luna and 'The Vampire Diaries' actress Nina Dobrev have been cast as medical students who conduct strange experiments into the after-life - and soon learn they shouldn't meddle with the dead.

The original "Flatliners" - directed by the Batman franchise's Joel Schumacher and produced by Michael Douglas - has developed a strong cult following over the last 26 years.

Norton is coming off breakthrough TV roles in 'Happy Valley' and 'War & Peace', and has also earned rave reviews for his appearances in the films 'Belle' and 'Mr Turner'.
