Italian rhapsody

Actor Chunky Pandey was recently in Italy shooting for his upcoming film Sajid Khan's Housefull. The cast and crew spent nearly two months in Bari, a town in southern Italy. Chunky had a wonderful time exploring this port city and its surrounding areas; CS discovers more about his trip:

Seaside wonder
Bari being a coastal city, was quite hot. The temperature was similar to that of Mumbai. But the natural beauty of that town and its surroundings left me awestruck. Bari is on the Adriatic Sea. The clear turquoise waters with sunlight shining on it, is a great sight. The water is so clear that I could see objects that might be 30-40 feet deep. The sea is flanked with white mountainous cliffs while the small white pebbles on the beach add to its glory. There were innumerable caves and grottoes in the beaches, and you could go there for excursions. I visited the Basilica of Saint Nicholas, Bari Cathedral, Swabianu00a0Castle and other main sights of Bari.u00a0

Mingling with the locals
We spent a few days in Vieste, a small quaint fishing village in Bari. There we stayed in a seven star resort that came with every imaginable luxury. The people were warm, gregarious and very hospitable. Unlike the rest of the Italians, who are fair skinned, people here had tanned skin, blond hair and blue eyes. They didn't know much about India or Indians. I got mistaken for a popular Spanish actor and people asked me for autographs. It was hilarious but I loved the attention. The locals are very religious and you can find a monastery / chapel in every nook and corner.u00a0

Shopping spree
Surprisingly, we found a lot of the designer brands in Bari at cheap prices. It has a number of outlet malls, but I bought a couple of Christian art icons for my house that I really loved. The food was also awesome. We tucked into fresh fish seasoned with herbs and spices everyday. I have been all over Italy but Bari's cuisine was undoubtedly the best. My tip to travellers would be to bargain everywhere right from the boats to the shops, Italy is famous for its bargains.u00a0
