When Wai Yu Mun Ching opened shop as a Chinese and Thai takeaway joint in a Juhu bylane last year, we feasted on its Chicken Dumplings and Thai Fried Rice.

Though our goodies were fresh hours after they were cooked, we rued the fact that we couldn't dig our chopsticks and slurp on our noodles, when they were fresh from the frying pan.

Last month, the takeaway joint expanded to a tiny five-tabled shack-like section that appears to invite you into its warm, mellow interiors.

Fairy lights strung around the stump of a tree shooting through the roof and dangling paper lanterns add to the comfort of being indoors.

With tiny, white pebbles to dig our toes into, we took our seat at one of the flat tables in the empty eatery.

White stucco walls, fairy lights strung around the stump of a tree shooting through the roof and dangling paper lanterns add to the comfort of being indoors and listening to the pitter-patter outside.

Since it can get a bit confusing to order from the expansive menu, Anoop, who took our order (and also one of the owners) helped us choose our food.

We started off with an Asparagus Soup (Rs 80), that was surprisingly more white than green and not bursting with veggies as we hoped for it to be.

Still, comforting it was. My non-veggie companions found their piece of heaven in the accompanying Prawn Bali (Rs 275), admittedly one of the best prawn dishes they've ever had, while our humble Paneer Burnt Chilly (Rs 150) had super-soft chunks of paneer.

What astounded us was that our dishes arrived within ten minutes of placing our order, and they didn't even taste pre-cooked or reheated.

The staff respects your privacy and you are free to snuggle up with your honey or have raucous conversations with your buddies, since there are no servers watching over you with hawk eyes.

It took us forever to decide the main course but when the Red Thai Curry with Chicken (Rs 240) and the Exotic Veg Hunan (Rs 105) arrived, with their respective rice plates, we knew it was a good choice.

We only wished there were fewer chillies in our vegetarian dish, especially since we had asked for less spice.

We picked Honey Noodles with Ice-cream (Rs 125) from the meagre dessert section.

Too much honey and too many fried noodles for the two scoops of vanilla ice-cream made this a not-so-happy ending to an otherwise good meal. But we are sure to be back on another gloomy, wet day, for a comforting meal.
