City Christians are in favour of the Pope joining the social networking site
Mumbai's Christians are overjoyed at the news that the Pope will now become a member of Facebook. The move, planned in order to better connect with the Christian youth all over the world, has come in for much praise from his followers here in the city.
"Now we can share our personal problems and also confess before him on the site. Overall, it's really good news," said Nitin Kakkara (19), a Roman Catholic.

Dolphy D'Souza, from the Bombay Catholic Sabha, agrees with the Pope. "We need to keep pace with technological development so that we can connect with youngsters all around the world, who are more likely to be accessible through such websites," said D'Souza, who has an account on Facebook.
Net gainsBishop Agnelo Gracias is a little more cautious. "The idea is a good one. Though I hardly use such technology, I am aware that parishes like Mount Carmel in Bandra and Orlem in Malad use Facebook to interact with the faithful," he said, adding that excessive obsession with virtual interaction has its own dangers.
"The Pope has said that obsessive online socialising can isolate people and take them away from real interaction.

However, if the medium is being used to facilitate interaction for the good, then there should be no harm in it," said Gracias.
