After the much criticised online application process for junior college admissions was almost scrapped last year, the state government is once again toying with the idea, according to a DNA report.

The new school education minister is up with a transparent and student friendly website to help students.

Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, school education minister, said, "The online application process will start this year. We are in the process of forming the policies. However, they will be announced only after the elections."

This year, students in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (including Thane, Navi Mumbai and Raigad) will also be able to apply using the online process.

The decision was taken in a meeting held on Wednesday. The minister discussed several issues regarding the mode of payment and the website address.

Last year, when https://www.mumbaiapplication.com/ was launched, students ended up filling the forms online as well as offline. The website crashed on day one.

Though it was functioning on the second day, it had many glitches like inability to make online payment, to upload certificates for category students, etc.
