Rebecca Rodrigues gave her school - Mary Immaculate Girls (MIG), Borivali - a perfect parting gift after the striker helped them win the Mumbai Schools Sports Association girls under-16 title. Representing her school for the final time, Rebecca scored a hat-trick as MIG thrashed Arya Vidya Mandir, Bandra 5-0 in the final at Azad Maidan yesterday. She was well supported by her strike partner Neha Ture, who also got a brace to her name.
"Six of us were playing for our school for the last time. We desperately wanted to win this tournament and give something back to the school," said Rebecca.
She pointed out that the camaraderie between players played an important role in winning.
"We have some really good players. We all play as a unit and always try to help each other," said Rebecca.
MIG's custodian Cleamy D'Silva didn't concede a single goal throughout the tournament. She was responsible for clean sheets in nine consecutive games. Cleamy however, was modest about her feat.
"I didn't really have much to do as the defenders did an excellent job. I'm glad that we won the trophy in my debut season," said an elated Cleamy.u00a0u00a0
