Mumbai: Swami Vivekanand International's (Borivli) Suved Parkar played the skipper's role to perfection scoring a 211-ball unbeaten century against defending champions Al-Barkaat MMI (Kurla) on Day Two of the Giles Shield final at Cricket Club of India (CCI) yesterday. At stumps, Suved was on 102 with the Borivli team managing 172-1 in 66 overs.

Suved's knock included 15 boundaries. Shlok Iyer played the supporting role well, scoring 38 runs off 122 balls. Earlier, Swami Vivekanand restricted the Kurla school to 287 in the first innings.

On a batsman-friendly CCI wicket, the Borivli team was expected to go all out and pile on as many runs as possible but Suved explained that they preferred to play it safe. "The CCI wicket is favourable for batsmen.

We went out to bat post lunch, and once we lost the wicket of Darshan Borkar (18) we decided to go a bit slow. We are aware that Al-Barkaat has defeated former champions Rizvi Springfield (Bandra). Our coach (Mahesh Raut) advised us to not panic and play without pressure. That worked for us," said the 12-year-old.

Suved is keen to continue batting and take a lead of 200-plus runs. "Now that I have scored a century, I hope to score a double ton and bat through the whole day tomorrow. We have wickets in hand and our target would be to take a lead of 200 runs and get them out quickly."
