* Watch out, certain roads are closed from Saturday night onwards, so it's better to commute by train to the start point of the marathon or as a spectator.
* The elite runners start the full marathon at 7.40 am, the best place to watch them is on the Marine Drive stretch. You could also stand at Peddar Road, near the Woodlands building or Worli Sea Face near the now defunct Mela restaurant. Reach well, in time because they are so fast, you might miss them. Suburban residents can watch them at the Bandra Reclamation loop.
* Support the Mumbai Marathon by coming out in droves to cheer the runners. The city's spectator support is what makes the marathon what it is.
* Know your marathon manners. Do not cross the roads while the marathoners are running, do not throw water bottles at them and do not jeer for any reason.

* If you have a friend or family member running, try to get their running number the day before. It might be easier to spot in the crowd.
* Many people seem clueless about the event despite reams of press coverage. Check events and timings and then decide where you would like to be as spectator.
A little pre-planning and wisdom is all it takes to enjoy and savour a once-in-a-year opportunity to witness the finest running talent in the world or egg on a friend for whom. Your support could be the difference between finishing or giving up. Feel the marathon spirit seep into you right from the crack of dawn on Sunday.u00a0
