Jenson delighted with rain-hit, last-lap Canadian GP victory, but tearful too

Canadian Formula One Grand Prix winner McLaren Mercedes driver Jenson Button Britain holds the trophy aloft on the podium at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal on Sunday. |
The second, which resulted in Alonso's retirement, also punctured a tyre on Button's car that necessitated one of the stops, pitching him to 21st and last at that stage with 43 laps remaining. But tenacity, determination, some brilliant driving and, without a doubt, a slice of luck brought Button his 10th career win, and his first for 22 races.
That good fortune arrived around three kilometres from home of a race Vettel had led for around 98% of the time up until that point as the reigning champion slid wide at turn six.
Button, who had reeled in the 23-year-old, had the door opened for him and he needed no second invitation.
"My first grand prix win was pretty special, as it always will be, and it was a very similar situation with the weather," said Button.
"But I would personally say ufffd and I'm going to say it because I'm emotionally attached to this win because it's just happened ufffd it's the best one I've had in my career.
"It certainly had its ups and downs, let's just say that.
"It was definitely one of those grands prix where you are nowhere, then you're somewhere, then nowhere and then somewhere. But as we always say the last lap is the important one to be leading and I did so for half of it.
It was an amazing day, really an amazing day."
