Aryan Goveas, Swara clinch U-16 tennis titles

Aryan Goveas capped his fine run over five days by lifting the boys under-16 singles title in the T&T AITA All-India Talent Series tennis tournament with a hard-fought three set win over Baramati's Dharnidhar Mishra in the final played at the T&T Tennis Centre in Yeoor Hills, Thane yesterday.

Recovering from the loss of the first set, Aryan relied on his deep ground strokes from the baseline on both flanks to beat his rival 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 in a grueling match that lasted little over two hours.

The girls under-16 title was won by Pune's Swara Kulkarni, who defeated Nashik's Marukh Kokani 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

Aryan, who finished 2010 as Maharashtra's No. 1 under-12 player and is in his first year in the under-14 category, thus won his second AITA under-16 title.
