Real Madrid to play Benfica, PSG face Monaco in Champions League playoffs

Real Madrid will meet Benfica again in the Champions League playoff round after suffering a 4-2 defeat to the Portuguese side in the league phase. Meanwhile, defending champions Paris Saint-Germain have been drawn against domestic rivals Monaco, setting up a high-stakes all-French clash as teams battle for a place in the next round

Real Madrid were handed a quick rematch with Jose Mourinho’s Benfica in the draw for the Champions League playoff round on Friday, while reigning European champ PSG  will face domestic rivals Monaco.

Benfica beat Real 4-2 in their final game of the league phase on Wednesday, with a 98th-minute goal by goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin allowing the Portuguese side to snatch the last playoff spot ahead of Marseille, who were eliminated altogether.
