Sachin Tendulkar failed to get his 100th international ton, but it didn't matter. He realised the dream of his life when India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets to win the World Cup here on Saturday.

"I couldn't have asked for more. Winning the World Cup is the ultimate thing. This is the proudest moment of my life," Tendulkar said after the match.

"It's never too late. Thanks to my teammates, it's been a fabulous and consistent performance, without which it wouldn't have been possible."

Captain MS Dhoni, Man of the Match, was a relieved man. "There would have been quite a few questions if we had not won ufffd Why Sreesanth and why not Ashwin? Why not Yuvraj at No 4," he said.

"My idea was to give youngsters an opportunity and bat down the order. Unfortunately in the last few games the pressure got to me. But today I wanted to go up and Gary (Kirsten) supported me."

Yuvraj Singh was declared the Player of the Tournament and the victory completed a unique triple for him.
"Winning the U-19 World Cup, the T20 (World Championship), and now this... it is unbelievable. This victory for the whole of India, for Sachin and the whole team," he said.

Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara was gracious in defeat. "The way India played today, they deserved to win," he said.

"Any thing under 350, with the kind of batting India have, the only way we could have done it was by taking seven India wickets. But Gautam (Gambhir) played well at the top and MS (Dhoni) came and finished the job."
