Pune's nightlife alive despite Swine flu scare

MiD DAY did the rounds of Pune's most popular night watering holes and found that it is business as usual despite the ongoing swine flu scare. "The restaurant business remains unaffected. However, we have become stricter about cleanliness. If any staff member shows any signs of flu, we ask them to stay at home till they recover," explainedu00a0 Shailendra Kekade, the executive chef and general manager of Stone Water Grill in Koregaon Park.

Footfalls unchanged
An employee of the popular nightclub High Spirits in Koregaon Park said, "The swine flu has not affected our footfalls. I think it has to do with the fact that most cases of swine flu have been detected in Kothrud. No
wonder nights in Koregaon Park are quite normal. Of course, we are taking particular care that the staff has not contracted flu."

DJ Tobac, who plays with DJ Frankie was quick to retort, "The flu has had no affect on the night life. All is as it was earlier."

On the impact, Anil Rathod, GM of Pride Hotel commented, " Nothing really. I don't know why there is such panic. We fumigate our premises every Monday night, which is actually the standard for all hotels."

More cautious
Sandep Dharma, CEO, Loop Lounge in Gultekdi, however, said night revelers had become more cautious due to the ongoing swine flu scare. "Many youngsters enter the lounge wearing masks. We are ensuring our staff does the same. Thankfully, there has been no decline in the partying scene."

Night revellers MiD DAY spoke to appeared upbeat as ever. "We are going out as we used to earlier," said Sheetha Chako, a media professional.u00a0

Another partygoer and IT professional, Nitin Wagh, seconded Sheetha's opinion, "There is so much fun happening over the weekends, and after slogging for five days, I don't want to miss out on any masti just because of swine flu."
