Congress today washed its hands off the Indian Premier League's decision to shift the Twenty20 tournament out of the country, saying politics had not prompted such a move.

After a meeting of the BCCI's Working Committee in Mumbai, it was decided to shift the cash-rich league abroad, possibly to South Africa or England.

The decision was taken after state governments of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Rajasthan told the organisers that it would be difficult to provide security due to the General elections.

Congress spokesman Veerappa Moily said security consideration was the sole reason for shifting of the League. "Absolutely no politics. It is a question of security arrangements which have to be made by each of the state governments.

"State to state, the governments may have their own perception. It has nothing to do with any political party," Moily said.
