Iran HANGS Alleged Mossad Operative Ehsaan Afrashteh

Updated On: 13 May, 2026 10:53 PM IST

Iran has executed 32-year-old Ehsaan Afrashteh after convicting him in a high-profile espionage case linked to Israel’s intelligence agency Mossad. Iranian authorities claim Afrashteh transferred sensitive intelligence, operated under the codename “James,” and maintained covert contact with Israeli operatives across multiple countries. According to Iranian court documents, the alleged network involved secret meetings in Turkey and even claims of intelligence training in Nepal before his arrest. The case has now drawn major international attention after HRANA questioned the validity of Afrashteh’s confession, raising concerns about alleged forced statements and the fairness of the trial process. Iran’s judiciary, however, insists the evidence was sufficient and says the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence after reviewing the case in full. WATCH
