Engineers are developing an AI model that can operate CAD software the same way a human designer does. The system takes a 2D sketch and turns it into a 3D model by clicking buttons and navigating menus inside the software. The project aims to lower CAD’s steep learning curve and make design work faster and more accessible.
The team created a new dataset called VideoCAD. It contains over 41,000 examples showing how designers build 3D models inside CAD tools. These videos record every click, drag, and selection that shapes an object. By studying this data, the AI learns how humans move through CAD interfaces to create parts and objects.
