US President Barack Obama took time off from his busy schedule to pay a surprise visit to an elementary school here to watch his younger daughter Sasha play basketball.
The event at the Kensington Parkwood Elementary School in Maryland turned more exciting than usual for many parents and children as Obama accompanied by wife Michelle and their elder daughter Malia arrived at the venue to watch 7-year-old Sasha play basketball, The New York Times reported.
The customary handful of reporters, who follow Obama wherever he goes, also accompanied him but kept a safe distance from the school.
There was no word from the White House on whether Sasha scored any baskets or if her team won the game. The Obamas said they intend to become a part of the local community but want to keep Malia and Sasha away from too much exposure to the press.
In a recent television interview, Obama, who is also an avid basketball player, expressed happiness over Sasha deciding to take up the sport.
