Four people died and a police officer was seriously wounded yesterday after an explosion and a shootout ended at a hospitalu00a0 in Loerrach, southwest Germany, police said.

"An armed woman came out of the burning apartment and headed towards tthe hospital, where a shootout with the police broke out, in which two people died, including the woman," the cop added.

"Soon afterwards, firefighters found two bodies in the apartment, one of a woman and one of a girl," the spokesman said. The reason for the shooting is yet unknown.
