Following a bitter battle, the American wife of a London financier has been awarded 337 million pounds ($529 million) by a high court judge in the largest settlement a woman has received so far in a British divorce case

The couple, who have four children and have given more than one billion pounds to charities, separated after being married for over 15 years.

The settlement dwarfs the earlier record of 220 million pounds, paid in 2011 by late Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky to his ex-wife Galina Besharova, and confirms London's standing as the divorce capital of the world due to the generosity of its courts to estranged wives, the report added.

Sir Chris Hohn, 47, maintained that his wife should get a quarter of their fortune. But Cooper-Hohn, 49, claimed she should get half because the wealth was created as a result of their "partnership".

Justice Roberts is yet to deliver a detailed ruling on the dispute, but a draft version has been given to Sir Chris and Cooper-Hohn and their legal teams.
