According to police statements, the French presidential hopeful and the then-head of the International Monetary Fund repeatedly asked officials, "What is this about?" and "What for?"u00a0 After saying he diplomatic immunity, he asked the Port Authority officers, "Can I speak to someone from the French Consulate?"

They told him that only NYPD officers could explain things to him at that point, the files reveal. En route to the Manhattan Special Victims squad, Strauss-Kahn again tried to find out what was happening. Aside from the indignation at being cuffed, he complained, "These handcuffs are tight." By 11 pm, after six hours in custody, he had spoken to his lawyer William Taylor.u00a0
