At least five people lost their lives, and over 40 were injured when a wooden structure collapsed during a religious event in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred at around 8 am during a programme held at Shri Digambar Jain Degree College ground on Gandhi Road in Baraut city, approximately 20 km from Baghpat. (PIC/PTI)

Eyewitnesses reported a delay in medical assistance, claiming some injured individuals were transported to hospitals in e-rickshaws due to a lack of ambulances.</div>

<div>Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya stated that organisers had obtained permission for the event and that an investigation into the incident is underway. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured and extended wishes for their speedy recovery.</div>

<div>The annual event has been held in the area for the past 30 years, with no major incidents reported previously. The Samajwadi Party (SP) criticised the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government, alleging negligence and a lack of crowd control at the festival.</div>
