Assam Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma led the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) victory celebrations on Monday. Thanking the people of Assam for the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) strong performance in the assembly elections, the CM described the win as a reflection of the “good work” of the government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on the development of the northeastern state. This was the first election that the BJP fought with Himanta Biswa Sarma as Chief Minister. The polls saw BJP getting its highest tally in the state so far. In the 2021 election, the BJP won 60 seats and Congress 26.
