Judge's mangalsutra snatched from Mathura temple, 10 women held

A gang of 10 women thieves who allegedly targeted female devotees at temples in Uttar Pradeshs Mathura was busted in a police crackdown after a judges mangalsutra was snatched officials said on Sunday reported the PTITen such women thieves were arrested the police said on SundaySenior Superintendent of Police SSP Shlok Kumar said on June 1 Prema Sahu an Additional District and Sessions Judge posted in Ujjain Madhya Pradesh was visiting Thakur Shri Radharaman Temple in Vrindavan with family members when her gold mangalsutra was snatched as per the PTIWe launched a campaign to identify and apprehend women thieves and pickpockets active in the temples leading to the arrest of 10 such female thieves on Saturday the SSP said according to the PTIPolice recovered several stolen purses belonging to both men and women containing cash Aadhaar cards PAN cards debit cards driving licenses and other important documents along with a total of Rs 18652 in cashSSP Kumar revealed that during interrogation it was discovered that the women travelled from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan to be part of the gangThey indulged in pickpocketing phone theft and snatching valuable ornaments in crowded temples of Vrindavan and MathuraLegal proceedings have been initiated and all arrested women have been sent to jail the SSP addedMumbai Chainsnatcher who assaulted 65yearold woman caught in a weekMeanwhile in an another incident within a week of chainsnatchers attacking a 65yearold on her morning walk in Dahanukarwadi Kandivali West the Charkop Police have arrested one of the accused The crime took place on May 31 when the victim was walking in her neighbourhoodTwo bikeborne men approached her near the Mahavir Nagar area and the pillion rider attempted to snatch her purse which contained Rs 2000 in cash and a few personal items But the woman held on tightly and in the tussle both she and the accused fell to the groundThe victim was dragged a short distance but still refused to let go The pillion rider then assaulted her grabbed the purse and fled the scene on the motorcycle The victim sustained injuries to her head and other parts of the body Passersby came to her aid and alerted the police control roomThe Charkop Police launched an investigation under the guidance of Zone 11 DCP Anand Bhoite and Senior PI Vinayak Chauhan Due to low visibility at night the number plate of the vehicle wasnrsquot clear Detection officers API Dhananjay Awhad and PSI Abha Pawar along with their team scanned footage from more than 150 CCTV cameras to trace the accusedsrsquo escape route They then zeroed in on Aftab Mohammad Umar Khan a 24yearold habitual offender with past cases of motor vehicle theft and NDPS offences registered at Kasturba Marg police stationKhan was apprehended late on Friday from his residence in Rajendra Nagar Borivali East in MumbaildquoKhan was produced in court today and remanded to police custody Search operations to nab his accomplice are still ongoingrdquo said an officer from Charkop policewith PTI inputs
