While New Year’s Day is a public holiday in the United States, it is not a gazetted national holiday in India. Instead, the Indian government has classified January 1 as a Restricted Holiday (a paid day off for employees to celebrate).
It also means that most offices, banks and businesses will function normally across the country. However, some government offices, educational institutions and private establishments may remain closed or operate with reduced staff in select states, depending on local decisions.
