Union Minister and BJP's West Bengal unit president Sukanta Majumdar on Friday said that the alleged gang rape at a Kolkata law college highlights the growing concern over the safety of female students in educational institutions across the state.
He further pointed out that the Kolkata law college student gang rape case comes close on the heels of the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last year—an incident that had sparked nationwide protests.
A student of the South Calcutta Law College was allegedly raped inside the institution by an alumnus, even as two seniors of the educational institution assisted the prime accused in the crime, a police officer said on Friday. All three accused were arrested and produced in court which remanded them in police custody for four days, reported PTI.
