Preparation of electoral rolls in India is one of the world’s most rigorous and transparent exercises, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar has said amid allegations of fudging in voter data by Congress.
The Congress earlier said the credibility of the poll panel is at stake. Its leader Rahul Gandhi had alleged rigging in last year’s Maharashtra Assembly elections, a charge outrightly rejected by the Election Commission.
The CEC said that electoral rolls are shared with recognised national and state parties in accordance with the law every year during revision as well as before the elections. The CEC noted that this robust mechanism has played a vital role in upholding electoral credibility across the country for years.
