Diet-Delivery is a fuss-free way to get health and nutrition delivered to your doorstep. We spoke to the duo that conceptualised the service and learnt that this is what happens when a banker hangs out with a restaurant owner
A couple of years ago, banker Pratyaksh Bhagi grew tired of the limited meal choices and lack of healthy options available at office canteens. "Eating at restaurants wasn't the answer," explains Bhagi, highlighting the health hazards associated with eating-out on daily basis. That's when the 29 year-old decided to team up with his friend Ajay Yadav, who runs a multi-cuisine restaurant at Andheri, to start Diet-Delivery, a service that would employ Bhagi's business skills and Yadav's catering know-how.
"My parents were less-than-thrilled when I quit my job at Kotak Bank," Bhagi admits. But he and his partner were adamant to offer corporate Mumbai a vast variety of delicious-yet-healthy meals. "We just knew this had to work. There was such an urgent need for a service like this," Bhagi adds.
Right at the start of their venture, the duo enlisted the full-time-services of a skilled chef who worked on the taste aspect of their meals, and a nutritionist to monitor the health quotient. Today, Diet-Delivery boasts of a 25-strong kitchen team, who can easily execute a corporate catering order for a group of 50 and more.
Surprisingly, their biggest chunk of clientele includes busy homemakers and elderly individuals. They offer a 10 meal minimum subscription, with prices varying from Rs 95 to Rs 149 per meal, depending on your order. On menu: vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, Indian or multi-cuisine options, low-calorie count meals and balanced meal-plans. Meals vary between 400 to 750 calories and are especially designed by resident nutritionist Dr Panchali Moitra.
The Guide ordered an Indian vegetarian option and a multi-cuisine non-vegetarian meal, and were equally impressed by both. The meals, packed in metal tiffins, came encased in a weather-proof, insulated bag, complete with cutlery and tissue paper, and down to Nimbu Paani (one of our meals came with Jal-Jeera though) and a bowl of fruit.
The vegetarian meal included a surprisingly delicious Bharwa Parora (a snake-gourd recipe), tasty portion of Palakwali Dal, Phodni Bhaat (saffron rice with ground nuts), Pudina Chapati and a moderately-sweet carrot and dates salad. The non-vegetarian meal also held surprises of a different kindu00a0-- our Roasted Chicken in Mustard Sauce had tofu instead of chicken (though the substitute didn't mar the taste meter of the dish)!
The Four Seasons Herb Vegetable dish accompaniment was simple, and solely included to balance the non-vegetarian meal. "In such cases, we don't charge for the meal at all," explained Bhagi apologising as he admitted that though rare, occasionally, mix-ups or delays may occur. As they deliver lunch-time meals between Goregaon and Churchgate, the delivery service depends largely on the efficiency of the Dabbawallas. Subscribers to the service are urged to choose their meals for the week on Fridays, so that the Diet-Delivery team can plan ahead.
