The GUIDE stumbled upon a unique coffee shop with a bizarre name that serves deliciously spooky goodies

The new eatery at Wanowrie will make you stop dead on your tracks thanks to its morbid name. The subject of death is reiterated in the menu, which offers cheerful beverages such as Death by Chocolate Shake. The spooky name was apparently done in a bid to attract the younger horror-loving crowds.

Ambience: The cafe has a very down-to-earth look and while the walls and chairs are cream in colour, the lighting is subdued and there are two sofas to lounge on. The walls are adorned with musical notes and there is a guitar fixed on the wall. Soon, there will be rock music blaring from the speakers, promise the owners.

We tried: The Death by Chocolate Shake (Rs 90) included pieces of delicious chocolate truffle pastry mixed with coffee and vanilla ice cream, which gave us an instant sugar rush. The Cold Coffee Caramel Crime (Rs 65) included sweet coffee mixed with caramel and topped with whipped cream; it's a criminal temptation if you are watching your weight. The Coffee Walnut Pastry (Rs 45) had an overpowering taste of walnut and is only advised for die-hard nut lovers. The Chocolate Chip Muffin (Rs 50) is a must for chocoholics.

The Lemon Chicken Sandwich (Rs 60) looks unique as it is wrapped in slices of orange bread and has a tangy taste that complements the chicken. The Cafe Cannelle (Rs 55) boasts of cinnamon, an ingredient you would normally add to tea. This unique concoction managed to pull it off and we really liked it. We were enthused by the Devil's Cafe (Rs 65), which is made using a mix of ginger and mint, but were too stuffed to even attempt it.
Service: The three owners who have studied various branches of management chucked their full-time job for this venture. They serve you personally and leave no room for complaint.

At: Death By Caffeine, 17 Regency Arcade, Green Valley Bank, near Kedari Petrol Pump.
