Get set to bombard your senses with a medley of jazz, funk, pop, blues, Carnatic and other music styles today as award-winning American bassist Victor Wooten Jams with Bangalore musicians

Victor Lemonte Wooten needs no introduction. For music fans, Wooten is an innovator par excellence and one of the most influential bassists of this century.

Wooten not only believes in music but also its language and the way it is expressed. He has said, "A song is just an idea until someone brings it into the world.

That's the great mystery of music or any creative endeavor. The power is in the palm of your hand. You just have to release it to the world."

Wooten has collaborated with musicians belonging to several musical genres. From jamming with jazz band Bela Fleck and the Flecktones to performing with Chick Corea and the Dave Mathews Band, Wooten has done it all. Hosted in Bangalore by the Swarnabhoomi Academy of Music and the Nathaniel School of Music, Wooten will conduct a four-city (Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Mumbai) master class followed by a concert. He will be jamming with guitarist Prasanna, Dr Karthik on Ghatam and Amrit on the Khanjira.

Prasanna, a ground-breaking guitarist himself, who has collaborated with Wooten before and is bringing him to India, said, "I came to know Victor when he recorded with me on my album Be the Change in 2003. I tried to bring him down to India before but somehow it didn't work out." Over the years both the musicians got to know each other intimately and bonded.

Prasanna said that he was nervous about performing today with Wooten, but it is a tension born out of a positive energy, from the sense of going into the unknown. He said, "Victor doesn't know the audience, he has never performed with other two musicians, so it will be a spontaneous jamming. The experience might just be like an electric charge."

The audience can expect unusual sounds like hip hop, blues, funk, jazz, reggae, new age rock, funk and Carnatic jazz among others at the performance. Born to a family of musicians, Wooten and his brothers are all well known musicians.

Jason Zachariah from the Nathaniel School of Music said, "Along with being a musician, Wooten is also an educator of music. The master class will benefit city musicians because during the workshop they are free to jam with him, ask him questions and generally discuss anything about music."

Taught by his siblings, Wooten started performing at the age of five in the Wooten Brothers Band. Wooten first came into limelight with his 1996 album titled Show of Hands. Since then this five-time Grammy winner has collaborated with a host of musicians and released several critically acclaimed albums.u00a0u00a0u00a0
