Only second in state to do so; election dates not yet finalised
The launch of online registration for voting in its upcoming elections has made the University of Pune only the second in the state to provide the facility.
Teachers, principals, management representatives, department heads and registered graduates will be able to sign up for voting by going to the re-launched website of the university.
The relevant link will lead to the details of not only the registration process, but also voting centres, eligibility for elections and nomination and voting procedures, among other things.
Aurangabad University is the first university in the state to have taken its voter registration process online.
While the last date for the registration process is now June 15, the voting dates are yet to be finalised.
Online voting next
An official from the election committee said online registration had brought down the work pressure for members of the committee.
"The authorities are even trying to make voting online but it is still in the planning stage and will take some time," said the official.
Dr Manika Jadhav, registrar heading the committee, said they had taken the cue from the good experience of online registration for exam.
"The elections to various executive councils and boards of the university are scheduled in August," said M L Jadhav, Registrar.
"With online registration, we get error-free details in less time than it would otherwise take.
Two years ago, after we went online with SET examination registration, we realised it took us only an hour to get details of all the 35,000 applications. So we decided we will go online with other applications."
On online voting, he said at the moment it was not possible. "We have to wait for software for this. Only after that can we decide," he said.
