The walls of the residential colonies along the Indraprastha-Dwarka Metro line are protected by gods.
No, they are not facing the MCD's hammer or any other calamityu00a0natural or man-madeu00a0but someone who feels duty bound to ensure ample supply of ammonia to all around him. No degree of persuasion could stop people from relieving themselves over the walls of the colonies.
The traffic density on the stretch has increased tremendously ever since the Metro link came up. Though the problem existed even before the Metro line was laid there, it has grown exponentially ever since Metro trains started running on the route. However, there are no public urinals to ease the burden of the poor walls. When no amount of wall graffiti like "Dekho gadha moot raha hai (Look, a donkey is urinating)" could prevent the unstoppable urge to wet the walls around, residents put up pictures of gods and goddesses to stop the menace.u00a0
"It has made our life hell. Our house is very close to the Metro station and as there is no public urinal around, a number of people pollute the front portion of our house," said Pradeep Malik, a resident of Patel Nagar.
When MiD DAY caught Sudip, a student, peeing near the Uttam Nagar Metro station, he clarified: "Where else we should we go?"
"We are fully aware of the gravity of the situation. The MCD will invite tenders to construct 5,000 public urinals in the city in the next two-three months," said MCD spokesperson Deep Mathur.
