First time in Bangalore for an exhibition this Thursday, jewellery designer Farah Khan brings her beads and baubles for the discerning sparkle lovers.
Farah tells us, "It's my first show in Bangalore, but I've been to the city a million times as my father's from here.
I don't know what to expect from the show, but I love surprises. I want to create a brand presence. If I sell in the bargain, well and good.
I learn a lot from people I interact with. Khan has shown her jewels in different parts of India. She thinks Bangaloreans have refined tastes and are well travelled.
"For me it's essentially about creating a bond and not only about selling a piece, as jewellery outlives its wearer," Khan says.
Sister of Suzanne (Hrithik Roshan's wife) and actor Zayed Khan and DJ Aqueel's better half, Khan has a long list of celebrity clientele who swear by her designs.

And does it run in the family too? "Of course", she retorts, "Suzanne, Simone, Laila and many others from the Khan family buy jewellery from me."

I'm opening my first flagship store in Mumbai in October under Farah Khan Fine Jewellery and am also taking part in the India International Jewellery week organised by the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council," says Farah.
Her stint at professional designing was quite an accident. She says, "I had gone to Los Angeles for a party and decided to do gemology from the Gemological Institute of America in 1992.

I was quite an Indian nerd, had topped my class and when some friends liked my designs I decided to take it up as a profession.

The trend is to concentrate on one part and make it your point of focus. It could be a stack of bangles together or a pair of bold Chandelier earrings or just a rock solid big cocktail ring. A one piece statement has been in vogue for a while and still is.
