Kin of boy who consumed poison say Khadki Cantt Board hospital did not give him first aid

His best friend Harshad Shirole lay unconscious in his arms, but nurses at Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) hospital allegedly refused to admit his friend.

No senior doctors
Blaming the lack of senior doctors in the hospital that day and Harshad's critical condition, the nurses asked Kadam to take his friend to another hospital.

When Kadam rushed with his friend to the nearest YCM Hospital in Pimpri, the doctors at the casualty were shocked and angered that no medical first aid was given to Harshad whose condition had deteriorated by then.

Critical condition
Dr Sanjay Sonekar, medical officer on duty at YCM's casualty ward, said, "When he was rushed to us, we realised that he wasn't given any first aid. He was very critical and we rushed him to the ICU. It was a difficult case."

According to Kadam, Harshad consumed poison after having a fight with his mother. "Harshad was alone at home when he consumed poison. He then left home to go to Sandeep's house when he collapsed on the road. Sandeep rushed him to the hospital with another person's help and informed us," said Nilesh Shirole, Harshad's elder brother.

'Callous attitude'
However, the Shiroles, who reside at Range Hills in Khadki, are shocked at the callous attitude of the KCB hospital.

"How could they not even give first aid to my son?
When he was brought to YCM Hospital, the doctors said he was so critical that they weren't sure if he would make it. They clearly said that had he received first aid, he wouldn't have been so serious," said Prakash Shirole, Harshad's father.

Doctors at the YCM Hospital confirmed that Harshad's condition had slightly improved since yesterday, though he was still admitted in the emergency care unit of the hospital.
