A homeopath is touting Karnatik music as an antidote to swine flu

A homeopath is selling a music CD that he claims can protect you from swine flu.

Dr V Krishnamurthy of Chennai has distributed handbills in Bangalore promoting the five-hour recording at Rs 200.

He says in the handbill that he "permanently cured" millions of patients of chikungunya in 2007-2008 with the "homoeopathic remedy Polyporus Pinicola 10,000X".

When MiD DAY called, he said he had been receiving hundreds of phone calls every day seeking help for swine flu.

The 63-year-old doctor insists his treatment is effective. The DVD features five hours of Karnatic vocal music, he said.

His handbill says: "Listening to this music for one hour daily will increase the individual's income, prevent all diseases including swine flu and also solve day-to-day problems."

Krishnamurthy said he could find a medicine for swine flu if only someone gave him Rs 75 lakh.

"Private institutions and the government have no guts to support me, and they are arrogant," he said.

He says he needs the money to be able to develop and announce the name of a homeopathic drug to cure swine flu.

Dr Vishal Ghanathe, a homeo doctor based in Mysore, said, "Awareness about the disease is important. Homoeopathy can prevent swine flu and also cure it."

But the allopaths are sceptical. "What can we say about such claims?" said an official of the Indian Medical Association.
