To promote singing talent across genres, 94.3 Radio One launches its new initiative 'One Delhi, One Music'
No matter what you have ears for - from classicals to ghazals, bhangra, Sufi, folk, funk, rock or Indipop - now you can listen to your favourites from across genres all at one platform.
With the peppy number Aao apna gana bajao sung by the Radio One team as the anthem, 94.3 Radio One launched 'One Delhi, One Music' on Wednesday in the Capital. "We want to be the natural catalyst, a natural bridge between the musician and the listener and ensure the multi-genre music revolution sweeping this country. Classical music is our base, but we have completely forgotten about it.
We wanted the musician to be the face and since the youngsters is ready to listen, who are we to stop it?" claims Vineet Hukmani, Managing Director and CEO. "The strength of radio is that one can share the music and there is no need for a video. So we are providing a platform and welcoming artists to come and record," he says.
Weekends now promise to be more exciting and entertaining. After the phenomenal success of Delhi's favourite show 'Play Your Music Day', listeners can now feast on this musical extravaganza cutting across genres on weekend slots. The show will be hosted by RJ Sumit Sapru. "It is a treat to record with all famous musicians," says an excited Sapru.
The show will also consist of artist/bands performing live, talking about their music and reaching to their audience. Listeners will also get an opportunity to attend one of the live gigs through various contests.
Commenting on the launch, Delhi station head and National Business head Rajeev Bhandari further states, "We are proud of our alliances with Rock Street Journal and Swar Dharohar which has brought more momentum to our initiative. Our digital music partner Artistaloud.com will strengthen the direct artist to listener connect by providing the music download capability."
"We, Radio One, want to be a natural friend, catalyst, a bridge between the musician artist and the listener and ensure the music revolution sweeping this country is given its due respect," says Hukmani, who started his music career at the age of 15 with the band called Stone Cold.
The do saw the presence of a host of musicians from across genres lending their support to the new property like Pt Vishwamohan Bhatt, Grammy Award Winner; Aslam Sabri, sufi singer; Anupriya, violin player; Zulfi Khan, ghazal Singer; Shankar Sahney, Punjabi pop singer; Jasbir Jassi; Bandish band; Raghav Sachchar; Singer Shibani Kashyap amongst several other musicians who graced the occasion.
Shankar Sahney commenting on the property says, "Such offerings are very encouraging for the artistes giving them the much required platform and giving a boost to the almost diminishing genres."
Vishwamohan Bhatt also appreciated the concept and said, "The initiative will help all the genres like classical get back their attention, which is taken over by Bollywood currently." Agreeing, Shibani Kashyap also avers, "This is a blessing for all. I am a part of this and one can concentrate on the compositions rather than the video."
