Rescued from being butchered for Eid-ul-Adha, it injured the inspector in a fit of rage

An ox that was on its way to being butchered for Eid-ul-Adha will live to see old age after being rescued last night. The cop who rescued it, however, will carry scars from the encounter for a long time.

The ox, purchased in Shivaji Nagar, was being forcibly pulled by two unidentified men around 1.30 am when Inspector Hanumanthappa from the Cubbon Park police Station, who was on night patrol, passed by.

The men ran away on seeing him and he took the beast to the police station so that it could be transferred to an animal shelter in the morning.

However, trouble broke out when Hanumanthappa and his fellow policemen tried to tie the ox to a pole inside the police station.

The ox went into a fit of rage on hearing a horn from a passing car and escaped the policemen's clutches.

After a 20-minute chase around the area, the cops managed to successfully calm and tie the ox down, but not before Hanumanthappa suffered bruises to his face and hands.

"When I saw these men pulling the ox, I stopped them and asked what they were doing. That's when they just ran away. It would've been butchered by those boys for Eid. So I brought it here for its safety," said the inspector.

The ox will be taken to Prani Daya Sangralaya, an animal welfare association, today.
