About 122 CCTV cameras being installed at important locations across the satellite township

If Noida police is to be believed, in the near future, criminals will have to blink first when it comes to the game of cat and mouse with the law. That's because cops in the satellite township will have their eyes everywhere, at all times. The police plan to install around 122 close circuit television (CCTV) cameras at various important locations; almost 90 per cent of the work is already over. All the cameras, supposed to function by this month-end, will help beef-up the law and order system in the area.

The CCTV cameras will also be guarding all the entry and exit points of Noida. Among other places, two cameras each at different locations have been installed at sector 18, sector 12-22 crossing, DM residence crossing, crossroads of sectors 8, 10, 11, 12, Atta Peer crossing, T-point of Botanical Garden Metro station, Metro Hospital sector 12 and Reliance-Adobe crossing.

Coming soon
SN Singh, Senior Superint
-endent of Police (SSP), Noida said: "The control room for all the cameras will be set up at sector 14 A and this will be done by the company which has been allocated the contract. All the cameras have power back-up and will be operational 24 hours a day. A major chunk of the work is done and in all probability, they will start functioning by month-end."

"Once they are activated, nabbing criminals will not be that tough. If any sort of untoward incident takes place in a particular area, those sitting in the control room will become aware and will immediately inform the police station, SHO and PCR of that area. Through the CCTV cameras, police will remain in the know of all the moves of criminals and convey the same to PCRs," added Singh.

Special team
A team of 30 police officials, well-versed with computer and technology, has also been formed and given proper training for handling the systems. All of them will be sitting at the control room and operating the network from there. Of these 122 cameras, 48 cameras can pan, tilt, and zoom, while the other 74 are fixed. "Those located at strategic locations are high-end cameras with all modern facilities. The rest are fixed but have good resolution," said an official from Bharat Electronics Limited, the company to which the contract has been awarded.

With an aim to develop Noida as a major infrastructural hub, at par with all the major cities in the country, the authority announced Rs 5,000 crore for development projects in Noida and Greater Noida. The authority will spend about Rs 2,000 crore on projects like construction of elevated roads, flyovers and five underpasses at major traffic bottlenecks. The sum will also be used for providing basic services like healthcare, transport and water supply.

'Street smart'
The authority will begin work on two major road corridors proposed under the Master Plan 2031 for Noida - 45km corridor from Kalindi Kunj through sector 37 to Jevar airport in Greater Noida and another 30km link that will connect Hapur in Ghaziabad to Greater Noida. The focus is also on creation and upgrade of services such as a bus rapid transit system, Metro rail, water, electricity, drainage and solid waste management. The authority has fixed a deadline of three years for the completion of these projects.
