Here is good news. The petroleum ministry has cleared a scheme in which the dealers will deliver cylinders at a time designated by the consumer, till 8 pm.
In a step to improve the cooking gas delivery system, Jitin Prasada, union minister of state for petroleum and natural gas, will launch 'flexitime' delivery of cooking gas cylinders in the Capital on Tuesday. "The project will be launched for all distributors of Indane, Bharat Gas, HP Gas customers in Delhi, Bengaluru and Pune along with outskirts of these cities like in Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Sonepat.
Other cities such as Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan, Mira Bhayander will see this launch by the end of the month. In fact, the scheme may be extended to all towns having population of about 10 lakhs within six months; and in the rest of the cities within a year," said a senior official of the petroleum ministry.
Initially, the ministry wanted to extend the time of delivery till 10 pm but this couldn't happen. "As per the explosives rule, LPG godowns are not allowed to open after 8 pm," said an official.
For getting the benefits of the scheme, customers have to first register themselves to become a preferred time customer. "Consumers can register either through direct application in the stipulated format or through the respective websites of distribution companies," said the officer.
The 'preferred time' customer will have to pay an extra charge for getting the delivery at a preferred time or day (see box for details). The ministry has also kept the provision of penalising the dealers if they miss the specified time. "In case of delayed delivery of refill cylinder due to reasons solely attributable to the distributor, a discount of Rs 20 shall be given by the distributor under this scheme," the officer added.
Even if a preferred time customer is not available at his home at his stipulated time, the distributor will deliver at his place again at the next preferred time. If the consumer is unavailable at his home the second time as well, his status of preferred time customer will be cancelled for at least six months.u00a0
