"The game is not over and we are waiting for the court verdict on the disqualification case," said a senior leader from JD(S). "Hence we have requested them to stay back in the resort for some more time."
Eleven BJP MLAs and five independent legislators, who had supported the Yeddyurappa government, had switched camp to help HD Kumaraswamy, state president, JD(S), who engineered the political coup. While the judgment on the disqualification of the BJP MLAs is reserved, the high court will hear the independents' case, today.
The MLAs, who were kept in Eagleton Resort near Bidadi, were moved to Golden Palms Resort near Nelamangala yesterday, while people celebrated Vijayadashami.
"I think our planetary position is bad. That's why we are in hibernation, while our families are celebrating the festival," said Shivaraj Thangadagi, a disqualified independent MLA. "It is big festival for us. I have asked my family not to stop celebrating because of my absence."
All BJP MLAs were in the resort, while two independents -- D Sudhakar and PM Narendraswamy were allowed to go home. Beluru Gopalakrishna, a disqualified BJP MLA from Sagar, sounded philosophical, "We are fighting for a cause. So we have to bear all hardships coming our way," he said. "I hope we will be able to celebrate the festival properly next year."
Along with the disqualified MLAs, some of the JD(S) members also missed the festive celebrations as they were deputed to overview arrangements in the resort, apart from keeping the flock together.
"I could not visit my constituency this time for the festival as I am busy with the party work," said HC Balakrishna a JD(S) MLA. "This is a new experience for me."
However, there was not much to celebrate, as half a day went in shifting from one resort to the other. The rest of the time was spent playing badminton, and carrom.
Ritual in resort |
>>Bandeppa Kashempura, a senior JD(S) leader and former agriculture minister, observes a ritual during navaraatri. He renounces the bed, and sleeps on the mat for the 10 days between Mahalaya Amavasya and Vijayadashami. |
