Twelve members of the NGO Bharat Bachao Aandolan Samiti met Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Rakesh Maria in Mumbai
Twelve members of the NGO Bharat Bachao Aandolan Samiti met Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Rakesh Maria in Mumbai yesterday and told him the police in the city had randomly gone about detaining a large number of Muslimu00a0 youths after the German Bakery blast.
The ATS chief reportedly said no more youths would be picked up unless there was a strong intelligence input on them.
The delegation led by Feroz Mithaborwala, Kishor Jagtap and Baba Patil wanted to meet Home Minister R R Patil also over the alleged mass detention of Muslim youths, but Patil was busy and said he would see them in the near future.
Kishor Jagtap, national convener of the Bharat Bachao Aandolan Samiti, said they also asked Maria if there was a software that could improve the hazy CCTV footage from the day of the blast, to which he replied that the cost of the software was Rs 1.5 crore and it could greatly improve the quality of footage.
The delegation also put forward a demand to name the ATS office after Hemant Karkare, the ATS chief slain by the 26/11 terrorists.
"Maria was pleased with the idea and reacted positively to it, assuring us that he will follow up on the issue," Jagtap said.
